We will be at the Muslim Lifestyle Expo this weekend in Manchester raising awareness for the need for more diverse foster carers. As you’ll probably be aware due to the children coming into care from all walks of life and ethnicities. there is a huge need for foster carers from different ethnicities to cater to these children.
At the moment due to the shortage of diverse foster carers, the children are placed with carers from different ethnicities. These foster carers do a fantastic job in looking after the children and providing a warm home. But these children need carers from similar ethnic backgrounds who understand their cultural needs and uphold their identity. Due to the child going through a traumatic time due to reasons out of his control, the child loses everything, his family, home, friends and some instances school as well. The only thing that he has with him and takes with him on this journey is his identity.
It is very important to keep the identity intact for the child as it starts as a starting point for redeveloping the child’s self-development, self-confidence and self-esteem and eventually out of the severe trauma in which he lost everything.
These children are in need of carers that understand the child’s culture and can fulfill the child’s needs. It is very important for the Local Authorities to have diverse foster carers so they can better place these children to like for like cultural placements.
Muslim Lifestyle Expo is a great family weekend with lots to do for everyone, including a variety of themes and activities to enjoy.
